Shot in the Dark
#1d0d1d
Muted charcoal-black plum with violet undertone contrast
About Shot in the Dark
On a near-black UI mock, Shot in the Dark reads like pink that got filtered through tired stage lights. It's darker than Crow and Black Sabbath without going mute, but it still doesn't land as a velvety plum like Dark Prom Queen. The undertone feels more neutral-warm than purple-cool, so it holds a hint of rose instead of slipping into bruise or magenta.
I reach for it when I need a focus treatment that shows up, but won't steal attention from the content. It's great in dashboards and finance apps for selected rows, inactive tags, and alert states that need to stay legible on near-black panels. Compared to Crow, it's steadier and less "bruise-warm"; compared to Black Sabbath, it has more pink in the mix so it actually reads as a color. Pair it with charcoal and muted rose-gray so it keeps its low-saturation mood.
If you push it against warm neutrals, it can drift toward mauve and start looking like a different family. Keep the neighboring grays cool and it behaves.
