About Whiskey and Wine

I keep a swatch of Whiskey and Wine around because it looks like gray that's been left out near red-brown leather. It's not the near-black weight of Black Panther, and it doesn't go cool and damp like Deepest Nightmare. Compared to Subterrain Kingdom's steady mid-dark neutrality, this one carries a faint wine undertone that makes it feel slightly warmer and a bit more tinted, even though it stays in the gray lane.

In practice I use it for dashboards and finance apps where you want contrast without the cold bite of a slate-gray. It's great behind dense tables for logistics, insurance portals, and operations tools, especially when you've got lots of dark UI components that would otherwise feel too samey. The one you reach for when you need the background to hold clarity but not look harsh, and it reads warmer than pure gray next to strict blacks.

Pair it with cream or soft greige, and let browner accents show up sparingly. Too many reds nearby and the undertone can start to steal attention from your data.
