Spikey Red
#600000
Spikier, hotter ember red for high-urgency blocks
About Spikey Red
Spikey Red looks like a fresh, razor-edged smear of red paint that still has a little bite in it. It's red-forward, but with an orange spark that keeps it from sliding all the way into crimson. Compared to Rosewood and Darkest Dungeon, it reads lighter and more lively in the midtone, and compared to Sacramental Red, it feels less ink-washed and more immediately saturated at the center.
For layouts, I reach for it when the brand needs heat without going bricky, especially for food labels, hair and cosmetics packaging, and craft spirits where the red still has to feel current. In UI, it's my go-to for alert badges, CTA blocks, and form focus states in product dashboards, plus cover-bar typography when you want contrast that punches but doesn't turn heavy. Pair it with warm creams and pale sand for a friendly glow, or add deep charcoal if you need that red that stays readable over dark backgrounds. Quick quirk: on matte stock it turns a touch calmer; on glossy it can look more intense, so check your finish before scaling it up.
