Major Brown

Major Brown looks like a warm-gray you'd find in a notebook margin that's been handled for years, not a fresh coat. On screen it reads more brown than the other Grays around it, with a steadier, slightly muted warmth that never goes cool at the edges.

Compared to Metropolis, it gives you more brown warmth instead of that faint cool, city-dusk restraint. Compared to Caveman, it's less "lived-in middle," and more deliberate: it holds its softness without drifting toward taupe-brown haze. And against Heavy Charcoal, it stays lighter and friendlier, so it anchors without disappearing.

I reach for it in docs, admin panels, and commerce back offices where you need clear hierarchy but don't want the UI to feel cold. It also works well behind muted editorial photography and product detail pages, especially when your accents lean toward ochre, terracotta, or softened blues. Pair it with off-white text or warm charcoals, and it'll keep the layout grounded without getting heavy.
