Placebo
#e7e7e7
Neutral, airy light gray with cooler finish
About Placebo
Placebo looks like a bright wall-gray that's been scrubbed clean but not polished. It sits between sheer lightness and real UI structure, yet it never drifts into the creaminess you'd expect from off-whites. Compared to Plaster, it feels smoother and a touch more luminous, less chalky; compared to Mercury, it's a bit more laid-back and less "present."
I use Placebo when I need a neutral field for lightweight cards, modal backdrops, and form gutters in web apps, especially in media tooling and e-commerce admin where you want contrast without the background shouting. It works well for dashboards and finance apps that use lots of grids and thin typography, giving the content room to breathe while staying strictly gray.
Pair it with cooler ink grays if you want a calm, crisp read, but if your UI leans warm, keep the rest of your neutrals from turning yellowish or Placebo can start looking a little sterile.
