Vienna Roast
#330022
Smoky wine-red warmth with a brown lean
About Vienna Roast
Vienna Roast looks like red that's been toasted and pulled back, not charred. It stays recognizably red, but it loses the loudness you get from Chocolate Kiss. Compared with Black Cherry and Belladonna, it doesn't hide as fully or flatten to near-black. It reads heavier and more muted, with a brown-leaning undertone that feels warmer than the berry-leaning cousins.
I use it for destructive actions and serious status messaging in healthcare UIs, fintech confirmation flows, and editorial interfaces where the message should land firmly without going purple or going almost-black. It's the kind of shade that holds its identity on white and warm neutrals, while still looking "settled" next to darker reds like Black Cherry.
One quirk: push it onto cool grays and it can start to look a bit flatter, so I usually pair it with warmer surfaces or keep nearby text colors on the cream side. If you want red that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard, this is the one you reach for.
