Florida’s Alligator
#664422
Murky olive-brown yellow for grounded, UI legibility
About Florida’s Alligator
I keep seeing Florida's Alligator come off like a ripe, earthy green-brown pulled into daylight, not a brown that's trying to be darker. It lands warmer than the plum-black feel of Black Power, but it doesn't go copper-dense like Antique Brass either. Compared to Cafe Royale, it's less red and more olive in the undertone, so it feels grounded instead of lit.
Use it when you need a dark accent that still reads "alive" in motion. It's my go-to for heritage beverage labels, packaging bands, and UI surfaces like hover states or pressed buttons where Chocolate Rain turns too flat and Cafe Royale starts to feel more ruddy than natural. In editorial grids, it holds up next to creams without collapsing into pure shadow.
Quirk: because of that green-brown tilt, it can look slightly muddy beside cool grays. Pair it with warm off-whites or creamy sand tones and it sharpens right back into focus.
