Volcanic Rock

About Volcanic Rock
Volcanic Rock reads like a gray scraped from old basalt: flatter than a polished stone, but not dusty or shy. Compared to Catch of the Day, it commits more to a cooler, sootier direction, with less of that brown midtone balance. It also feels less "worked" than Archaeology. And it's not as weighty and warm-material as Granite. The mood is quieter, with a slight smoky chill.
I use it when the UI needs a calm surface that still feels textured. Think logistics and manufacturing dashboards, hospital admin portals, and newsroom CMS screens where you want dense type to stay readable without looking clinical. It also plays well behind product imagery for hardware and outdoor gear, especially when the photos lean cool or desaturated. It's the one you reach for when you want a restrained, volcanic gray that holds steady without turning brown.
Pair it with off-whites, muted greens, or graphite for cohesion, and skip high-saturation accents if the background gets too heavy in dark mode.
