Around the Gills

Around the Gills is what happens when a green gets tired of trying to be pure. It's softer and more gray than Celery, which means it won't push as hard against your neutral backgrounds, but it's still visibly green, not hedging its bets like Beige and Sage does. There's restraint here, the kind that reads as control rather than compromise.

Use this on health dashboards, editorial layouts, and subtle UI accents where you need green that plays well with others without retreating. It sits naturally next to warm grays, pale stone, and weathered wood. Against cream or off-white it stays present but undemanding, which makes it reliable for long-form reading or large background washes. Unlike Canadian Maple's warmer earthiness, this one keeps its cool, it's the shade that works equally well in minimal interfaces and lived-in spaces.

Test it against very saturated or very cool neighbors though. It can flatten fast if there's nothing warm nearby to anchor it. Pair it with natural materials and muted tones and it settles immediately.
