Whispering Smoke

Soft neutral smoke gray, calmer than nearby grays
About Whispering Smoke
I keep thinking of the pale gray you see on an old studio wall after someone's sanded it down and stopped. Whispering Smoke is lighter than Kefir, but it doesn't go the beige in Alaska does. Compared with Modern Monument, it feels a touch airier and slightly softer in tone, like it has less "stone" weight and more haze.
I use Whispering Smoke as a calm, near-white workspace for editorial design systems, product docs, and SaaS settings panels where you want sections, dividers, and plenty of whitespace to read clean without turning into a blank page. It's the one you reach for when you're juggling lots of UI states and you need the background to stay neutral, letting form fields and typographic hierarchy do the talking. Cool enough to keep charts crisp, yet not cold, so dark text doesn't feel harsh.
One quirk: because it's so light, it can flatten subtle borders. Give it stronger separation or pair it with a more grounded neutral so the structure still holds.
