Pitch Black
#483c41
Warmer pitch-black gray with gentle depth, nonchippy contrast
About Pitch Black
I think of Pitch Black as the background that disappears, then quietly leaves the structure behind. It sits lower in value than Black Truffle and Dead Pixel, so it feels more like a decision than a suggestion. The undertone stays distinctly gray, but it reads a hair more muted and closed-in, with no charcoal smoke and no brown hint.
I use it when the UI needs real weight. Think dark-mode admin consoles and operational dashboards for logistics, ticketing, and systems monitoring, where dense grids and charts need contrast that feels grounded. Media players also benefit, especially if you want controls to stay present without competing with video. It's the one you reach for when you want near-void depth, not just dark gray texture.
One note: on large flat fills it can swallow mid-contrast borders. I usually lean on slightly lighter grays for hierarchy and let accents do the talking.
