Wonder Wine
#635d63
Muted gray with wine undertone for softer focus
About Wonder Wine
On my screen, Wonder Wine reads like a muted plum-gray that stays stubbornly in the middle, not as airy as Excalibur and not as dark as Fedora. It has more color character than the straighter grays around it, with a subtle purple undertone that shows up especially in flat UI surfaces. It's not brown-calm like Rum either; it feels cooler, but with a bit more warmth in the way the shade "holds" than you get from a pure neutral gray.
I reach for Wonder Wine when I want a secondary surface that still looks intentional. It's great for dashboards and finance apps, settings and preference panels, and the quiet panels in admin tools where table headers and form rows need consistency. In editorial layouts, it makes charts and captions feel settled without going lifeless.
Pair it with clean near-whites and medium-weight text so the purple hint doesn't fight your hierarchy. It works hard when you want the one you reach for that's recognizably gray, yet distinctly not a generic background.
