Merlot
#730039
Balanced maroon-wine red, warmer than cool crimson
About Merlot
Merlot reads like a mulled-wine red that's slightly softened at the edges. On a UI it's dark, but it doesn't go as heavy as Bordeaux, and it doesn't snap as bright as Her Fierceness. The undertone stays distinctly warm and wine-red, not rosy, not blushy. What I notice most is the balance: it's saturated enough to signal "stop," but light enough to keep text legible on dark surfaces.
I use it for error and destructive confirmation patterns when the screen needs seriousness without turning into near-oxblood. Think healthcare portals, login and payment failures, and subscription UX where the message has to land fast. It also works well in dashboards and finance apps as an alert accent that feels more composed than the brighter red neighbors.
Compared to Inescapable Lover, Merlot feels less glossy and more settled, like the red got time to mellow. Pair it with charcoal, deep neutrals, or cool grays so it doesn't tip into a hotter, orange-leaning mood.
