Zinc

Zinc is the gray I spot when a surface looks freshly wiped but not bright enough to feel clinical. Compared with Hong Kong Mist, it gives up that slightly lavender coolness and lands in a more straightforward, neutral gray. It also doesn't lean mauve like Mighty Mauve, so you don't get that rose-tinted undertone trying to color your UI.

On-screen, Zinc reads as a steady medium lightness with a restrained, low-sheen neutrality. It's the one you reach for when a layout needs calm that still has weight, especially in dashboards and finance apps where table headers, filters, and form rails need to stay out of the way. It also works well for document-heavy product pages, ticketing systems, and editorial side-by-sides where you want content to feel centered, not beige-warm or taupe-personal like Detective Coat.

If you pair it with very warm backgrounds, Zinc can start to look a touch dull. I usually keep the accents cooler and the typography clean so the gray stays crisp instead of drifting.
