Shadow of the Colossus
#a3a2a1
Low-saturation mid gray with cool ash undertone
About Shadow of the Colossus
On a foggy morning, Shadow of the Colossus looks like light gray that's already been weathered. It's not the quiet, disappearing kind like Cathedral, and it doesn't carry the brown weight of Earl Grey. It reads a touch cooler and a little more midtone, so it feels grounded without turning heavy.
I reach for this shade when I need the background to hold shape under motion and real content. Think learning platforms, document editors, and newsroom layouts where you want text to stay crisp but the canvas not to feel stark. It also works well in media preview panels, admin consoles, and dashboards and finance apps where secondary UI elements need separation without shouting. Compared to Dove, this one is less "soft-warm," more steely, and it doesn't blink when you drop in mixed neutrals.
One quirk: because it's slightly more saturated than the gentler grays, it can make very pale accents look a bit washed. Pair it with cleaner whites or slightly deeper tones, and it behaves.
