Ultimate Grey
#a9a8a9
Neutral medium grey with a dry, balanced undertone
About Ultimate Grey
I keep Ultimate Grey up on my second monitor when a neutral needs to look finished, not washed out. It's a cool, steady medium-light gray with a muted saturation and no rosy or mauve pull. Compared to Foggy Plum's slight rose lean, this one stays strictly gray and calmer. Compared to Lunar Light's airier cool lift, Ultimate Grey feels denser and more grounded.
For editorial layouts, publishing apps, and long-form reading interfaces, it gives you that calm page surface where typography stays the hero. I also use it in settings panels and table toolbars across healthcare ops portals, fintech dashboards, and logistics management systems, where you want separation without turning the UI steely. If you're coming from Nirvana, note this reads a touch lighter and less tinted, so it won't add that soft violet undertone under dense UI.
Pair it with near-white type and restrained cool accents; warm blacks can make the background look more contrasty than you expect, especially in large reading blocks.
