Cathedral
#acaaa7
Stone-slate gray with cool, airy softness
About Cathedral
Cathedral is the gray that doesn't announce itself. It sits between the warmth of Couch Potato and the studied neutrality of City Dweller, but it's quieter than both. There's enough cool in it to feel composed, enough gray to stay grounded, and a restraint that keeps it from trying to do too much. It's the kind of gray that disappears into the work.
You'll reach for this in interfaces where the content matters more than the container, financial dashboards, reading platforms, medical software, anywhere the background needs to genuinely recede. It pairs cleanly with both warm and cool accents without forcing a temperature choice. Unlike Ashes to Ashes, which is almost apologetically soft, Cathedral has actual structure. Unlike City Dweller, it doesn't shift or perform depending on what lands next to it.
One note: saturated colors will read slightly muted against it, which is usually fine. But if you're building something that needs to punch, this isn't your gray. It's the one you use when the page itself should stay invisible.
