Velvet Volcano
#ab0102
Dark, hot crimson red for high-emphasis warnings
About Velvet Volcano
Velvet Volcano reads like a deep red that still holds its composure, not a bright flash and not a scorched ember. Compared to Heartbeat, it's less controlled and more plush, with a heavier weight in the red channel. Compared to Chorizo, it feels more velvety than spicy, because the heat sits muted instead of pushing forward. Compared to Kid Icarus, it drops the lively orange lift and lands closer to a richer red.
I reach for Velvet Volcano when I need primary CTA contrast that feels premium and grounded, like ticketing confirmation buttons, paywalls, and subscription upsells in streaming and music apps. It also works well in food and event microsites where you want more red than orange without going maroon. Use it for promo headers, onboarding step labels, and "limited drop" banners on dark card UI.
Pair it with off-whites, espresso browns, and cool charcoals. On creamy backgrounds it can skew slightly darker and more wine-leaning than you expect, so I'll keep the surrounding neutrals cleaner to prevent the whole block from feeling too heavy.
