Toreador
#cd123f
Drier crimson-red anchor, deeper than Flame Lily
About Toreador
Toreador is the red I spot in UI mocks that needs to feel warm and confident, not cool like Cherry. It's got a firmer orange tilt than the Flame Lily family, but it won't heat up into that sun-struck, slightly softer intensity. Compared with Red Tape, it's less clinical and less "precision tool," more rounded and ember-like. The mood is immediate, but it doesn't spike.
I use it when the interface needs a red that reads human in product branding, especially for e-commerce CTAs, retail price emphasis, and editorial figure callouts where the lighting is warm. It also works well for mobile app states like "selected" or "in cart," because it stays punchy without turning into a magenta-adjacent warning feel. For those bigger moments in design systems, it's the one you reach for when you want warmth with control.
Quirk: it can look a touch heavier next to charcoal, so I like pairing it with light creams or cocoa neutrals to keep it from closing in.
