Muted Clay
#cf8a78
Soft terracotta warmth with subdued, dusty lift
About Muted Clay
Muted Clay is the orange you notice on sun-baked terracotta that's been sitting out for a while. It's softer and grayer than the brighter spice warmth of Ginger Scent, and it doesn't lean coral-pink like Island Coral. Compared to Canyon Sunset, it gives up some punch and density, so it reads more like pigment that's been tempered than a color that's trying to command the room.
I use it when the layout needs warmth but not a "stop and look" feel. Think wellness app dashboards, healthcare and skincare onboarding, and home-care or personal-care packaging where the brand should feel grounded and human. It's also great for product UI states like selected chips, subtle callouts, and section headers in editorial case-study pages, especially when creams and warm off-whites are doing most of the background work. This is the one you reach for when orange should sit close to neutrals without turning blushy.
Quirk: pair it with clean, warm neutrals. Cool gray-leaning palettes can make it look flatter and more dusty than you intend.
