Indian Red
#850e04
Smoldering orange-red warmth, darker than maroon, closer to brick
About Indian Red
Indian Red looks like a faded stamp on thick paper: not bright, not smoky, just stubbornly red with a gritty, earthy bite. Compared to Brick Red, it doesn't drift as far into brown. Compared to Barbera, it skips the wine depth and any purple lean. And unlike Bloodthirsty, it stays warmer and more outward, so it won't feel inward or cold.
I use it when the UI needs red that reads grounded, not aggressive. It works well in data-heavy dashboards and finance apps where you want alerting tones without the "too hot" feel of Cayenne, and it also holds up in packaging for food and spice brands that need warmth with restraint. In editorial spreads, it gives authority without the burgundy attitude.
Pair it with off-whites, clay, and brushed brass for the best match. On pure cool grays it can look a bit flat, so I usually warm the surrounding neutrals if I can.
