Monkey Island
#553b39
Muted cocoa-orange with a deeper red-brown undertone
About Monkey Island
On my screen, Monkey Island looks like a slow, mellow orange-brown that's been darkened without getting muddy. It lands near the earthy side, but it stays cleaner and more lifted than Espresso, which goes matte and tighter, and it's less foam-soft than Hot Chocolate, which reads more neutral-brown and subdued. Also, it doesn't punch like Death by Chocolate; it feels more controlled, with less saturation bite.
I use it when I want warmth that doesn't slide into reddish terracotta or turn flat. Think merchant checkout and subscription UI shells, product detail pages for retail, and content panels for hospitality or lifestyle brands that need a grounded base under photography. In print, it shows up nicely on label stock and seasonal packaging where you want brown depth with an orange pulse that still looks intentional.
Quirk: Monkey Island can lean a bit heavy next to very pinkish reds. Pair it with cool grays or restrained neutrals so the orange undertone stays readable and the page keeps its tempo.
