Humble Hippo
#aaaa99
Muted warm-gray that avoids green tint
About Humble Hippo
Humble Hippo looks like a draft of gray left in daylight too long. On a screen it reads as soft and slightly creamy, not flat like Gateway Grey, not earthy and weighty like Concrete Jungle. The undertone is a muted oatmeal warmth, which keeps it from feeling cool or distant.
I use it when I want the interface to feel steady but not sterile, especially in admin panels for education platforms, media CMS back offices, and e-commerce operations dashboards where the background has to support lots of text and tables. It also sits nicely behind product photography because it gives skin and fabric tones a gentle place to land without stealing focus. It's neutral with a little lift, warmer than true gray, and the one you reach for when you need calm that still feels human.
One quirk: because it's softened and slightly desaturated, very high-chroma accents can look a touch louder than expected on it. In those cases, either deepen the accent or lean into warm neutrals alongside it.
