Muddy Yellow
#bfac05
Muted olive-gold yellow for grounded, earthy accents
About Muddy Yellow
Muddy Yellow looks like a field note someone kept in their pocket too long: yellow-green, but muted until it feels dusty and slightly grayed. Compared with Greenfinch, it loses that clean label sharpness and instead turns more opaque and earthy. Compared with Hot Sand, it's less sun-spot golden and more "collected over time," so the warmth settles rather than flashes.
I use it when I need a grounded accent that still reads as yellow-family against UI greens, especially on CPG shelf UI for batch or tier tags that shouldn't feel like a hard warning. It also works in ecommerce product cards where the highlight needs to sit near olives without leaning into the extra-golden punch of Hot Sand, or the softer lived-in calm of Hippie Trail. In dashboards and operations screens, it's the kind of color that can mark "in progress" without shouting.
Pair it carefully: next to very bright lemons it can look a bit tired, but with deeper olive or warm off-white it regains its structure fast. The undertone is what matters most here, it stays earthy and low-saturation rather than crisp.
