Happy Hippo
#818581
Soft gray that reads neutral, not earthy
About Happy Hippo
Happy Hippo is lighter than everything around it, noticeably brighter than Camping Trip or Armour, but it hasn't lost the gray. It's the kind of warm neutral that doesn't feel apologetic about it. There's enough beige undertone to keep it from reading as cool, but not enough to make it feel brown or dated.
Reach for it in product interfaces where you need breathing room: settings panels, light backgrounds in design tools, secondary surfaces in apps that need to feel approachable rather than austere. It works harder than it looks because it's light enough to recede but warm enough to feel intentional. Unlike the heavier grays that anchor darker dashboards, this one floats. It's what you pick when Armour feels too heavy and you're not ready to go all the way to off-white.
Pair it with midtone or dark type and it reads clean. It gets along well with warm neutrals, muted earth tones, and actually handles softly saturated accents better than its darker cousins. Against bright, cold colors it'll feel slightly warm by comparison, which might work or might not, depending on what you're doing.
